Let’s Get Real
Let’s Get Real takes a hard look at the bias issues—racial tension, anti-gay stigma, sexual harassment, economic differences, immigration status— that often fuel name-calling and bullying. It gives middle school students the chance to tell their stories in their own words—and the results are heartbreaking, shocking, inspiring and poignant. The film not only gives a voice to targeted students, but also to youth who do the bullying to find out why they lash out at their peers and those who have mustered the courage to stand up for themselves or a classmate. Ideal for classroom use, faculty discussion, or family forums.
Running time: 37 min.
Praise for Let's Get Real:
“A fantastic film and curriculum for engaging all members of a school’s community in thinking about the connections between bias and bullying”
— Robert McGarry, Senior Director of Education and Youth Programs, Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network
“I saw a sharp decrease in disciplinary referrals when we started using Let’s Get Real at Centennial Middle School. The film has a huge impact on students because it is middle schoolers talking to other middle schoolers. It’s great because it sparks strong reactions and thoughtful discussion. ”
— Josh Thayer, guidance counselor, Spokane Washington public schools
